A sulfur compound that occurs naturally in the body

MSM is an abbreviation of methylsulfonylmethane, a sulphur compound that occurs naturally in the human body. Sulphur represents 0.25 per cent of our total body weight and is available in all our tissues, especially those that are rich in protein. The largest quantities are available in the three sulfur-bearing amino acids methionine, cystine and cysteine. Sulphur also occurs in organic sulphates and sulphides and in small amounts of B-vitamins B1 and biotin. We receive most of our sulphur intake from protein sources that are rich in the amino acids mentioned above, such as beef, fish, eggs, milk, dried beans, peas and cabbage.

MSM formed in nature through the Earth's sulphur cycle and is found in small quantities in the vegetation, animals and in human bodies. As the amount of MSM in nature is far too small to be extracted, all commercial MSM must be manufactured. The MSM produced is 100% identical to the MSM found in nature, so even if the product is not extracted from natural sources, the end product is completely bio-identical, with all the same advantages.

Superfruit's premium MSM consists of high quality OptiMSM® from the manufacturer Bergstrom Nutrition, which launched the product in 1989. Opti-MSM® is manufactured according to GMP standards and the factory is certified according to ISO 9001: 2008 Quality Management System and FSSC22000 Food Safety. The American FDA has also approved Opti-MSM® to "GRAS" (Generally Recognized As Safe) level. Opti-MSM® is the only MSM product on the market which has this label.

Opti-MSM® is also the purest form of MSM available. It is distilled using a unique four-stage distillation process. Many other types of MSM are produced through crystallization. This increases the risk of an impure product containing traces of heavy metals and other pollutants. Opti-MSM®'s unique distillation process removes any possible heavy metals and contaminants for an ultra-pure end product. Distilled Opti-MSM® also has a low moisture content, which reduces the risk of microbial contamination and product degradation.
