Wheatgrass Powder comes from the young shoots of the common wheat plant.

The shoots are harvested during the peak in its growth period, when nutrient levels in the grass are at a high. Wheatgrass has become very popular in recent years and is now available in juice bars, and as an ingredient in beverages and health foods. You can also grow your own wheatgrass at home but you need to own a juicer that is made specifically for squeezing grass. Wheatgrass does not contain gluten.

Research on wheatgrass has been done since the 1930’s by the chemist, Dr.Charles Schnaber,  who began selling wheat grass powder in pharmacies across the United States and Canada. In the 50’s Anne Wigmore, a pioneer in nutrition and raw foods, created a diet in which wheat grass was a central component. 

Superfruits organic wheatgrass grows outdoors in fertile soil with plenty of natural sunlight. The water used to water the fields is guaranteed to be free of fertilizers and insecticides. Wheat grass is planted each year in November and harvested about 150 days later. The grass is sorted and washed before it is dried and pulverized. From the time you harvest the grass, to the finished powder, it takes max one hour, thereby maximizing the nutritional content of the powder. Wheatgrass is rich in chlorophyll, the green pigment that plants use to absorb energy from sunlight. Wheatgrass also contains more than 20% Protein.
